Amadou reveals reason for leaving Norwich in January

Former Norwich midfielder Ibrahim Amadou has revealed why he decided to leave the club in January to sign for Leganes on loan.

Amadou claims that he wanted to go back to Spain due to his lack of game time at Carrow Road. He admits that he needed to play and that he believes he will be able to do just that with Leganes during the rest of the campaign.

The midfielder joined Norwich on loan from Sevilla last summer, with an option to make it permanent, but failed to nail down a regular place in the side.

Speaking to Yahoo Sport, as quoted by The Pink’Un, Amadou said:

For me it was a very difficult situation, I was in England waiting for the three clubs to agree a move.

I wanted to go back to Spain because I knew that Leganes is a good club for me. I needed to play and I have the confidence of the club to do so here. I think I can help this team to be fine.

Amadou was a difficult player for Daniel Farke to manage during his time in Norfolk, simply because he was forced to play out of position for the majority of his time. Despite being signed as a holding midfielder, Amadou played just one of his 11 Premier League appearances in his natural position.

Due to a spate of injuries at centre-back, the Frenchman was forced to play alongside Ben Godfrey for the most part in a back four. This meant that he was never really given the opportunity to show what he could do in holding midfield, aside from one game against Arsenal. He was, however, excellent in that match as he buzzed around the pitch making tackles and interceptions before producing a game-saving block in stoppage time to secure a 2-2 draw.

Farke did start him in defensive midfield for the next game against Southampton, but it is hard to count that one as he was moved to centre-back within minutes as part of a tactical change by the manager.

His performance against Arsenal showed that he had promise in his natural position, so it is a shame that he was never able to get a run in the side as he could have been a useful asset had he been able to do so.
