Norwich City midfielder Alex Tettey has revealed that the club attempted to sign legendary Italian forward Luca Toni.
Tettey said that Toni came to Norwich to look around the facilities, although the club were eventually unable to lure him in. The Norweigan does, however, fail to mention which year Norwich tried to sign him.
Speaking to Michael Bailey, of The Athletic, Tettey said this:
I remember back through the years, I think Luca Toni was here and looking around the facilities and the dressing rooms. And I was like, ‘Hmm, do you think Luca Toni will sign for Norwich?’.
But if you showed these facilities now to a player of that calibre, that is what this place has become. There were always plans to do this but the money always went on players to survive, which made sense. But now, this place is great.

READ NORWICH VERDICT
There is no doubting that Toni is an icon of Italian football, after scoring over 300 career goals – including 16 for Italy. He retired in 2016, after a three-year spell with Verona in the Serie A where he scored an incredible 48 goals in 95 games despite being in his last 30’s.
Tettey joined Norwich in 2012, which means the club could have attempted to sign him any time between then and when Toni retired in 2016 – with Norwich in the Premier League for three years during that spell. Norwich are certainly in no need of a clinical striker now, however, with Teemu Pukki having scored 36 goals for the club since the start of last season.
