Norwich head coach Daniel Farke has admitted that he wanted to sign Dan James from Swansea in the summer, before his move to Manchester United.
Farke is a fan of the Welsh international, but admits that they had no chance of signing him once United were interested in a deal.
Speaking to Norwich’s website, Farke said this:
I’m not surprised by how good James has been.
I always liked him, but sadly there was no chance for us to get him when Man United called! To deliver that quickly on this level says a lot about his character.

Would James have been a good signing for Norwich?
Yes and no. Whilst he would have been a solid addition to the squad and added more quality to Farke’s options, his arrival would likely have meant that Todd Cantwell would be sat on the bench instead of being given a chance.
Cantwell was handed a start out on left at Anfield on the opening day and has not looked back. The academy graduate has scored goals against Chelsea and Manchester City this season, along with two assists in a 3-1 win over Newcastle.
There is no doubting, given his performances for Manchester United, that James would have been a success at Carrow Road, but would it have been worth potentially missing out on the potential of Cantwell in a Norwich shirt?
