Norwich City have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of FC Twente defender Hidde ter Avest, with the player opting to sign for Serie A side Udinese.
The 21-year-old was destined for an exit from Twente after seeing the club succumb to relegation from the Eredivisie last season.
Norwich were understood to have emerged as a potential destination for the promising right-back, but they have been pipped to Ter Avest’s signature by Udinese.

The Canaries are understood by the EDP to be keen on recruiting a new right-back this summer as Daniel Farke aims to add further defensive reinforcements to his squad.
Ivo Pinto’s long-term future at Carrow Road is currently under scrutiny and as a result of this, Norwich want to ensure that they are well covered on the right-hand side of defence.
Ter Avest was evidently a genuine transfer target for Norwich this summer, but they will now be forced to look elsewhere following news of his arrival in Italy.
