Experienced Norwich City winger Matt Jarvis was dealt yet another blow as his return to action following a long-term injury was cut short.
On Wednesday night, the Canaries’ Under-23 side lined up against Fulham’s youngsters, a game in which Jarvis was called upon as he aims to boost his match fitness.
However, his night was cut short as he suffered a knock with just 20 minutes on the clock, forcing him off as Norwich’s U23s went on to lose 3-0 to their travelling counterparts.
The 31-year-old has waited a long time to make his return to action but his reintegration is set to be pushed back for at least another couple of weeks.
Speaking after the game, as quoted by the EDP, Norwich’s U23’s boss Matt Gill delivered an update on the former Wolves winger’s condition following the injury.
Good news is it’s not his ankle, which is fantastic news, he felt a little bit in his groin so as a precaution we took him off pretty quickly. He trained with us the last few days and has been excellent so the pleasing thing is it’s nothing to do with his ankle.
He was obviously disappointed to come off the pitch but his experience in those situations has told and he’s probably thought there’s no point trying to continue – and there isn’t, there’s the big picture ahead.
Jarvis has not played a first-team game for the Canaries since 2016 and will be desperate to shake off what appears to be a minor groin injury before the end of the season.
Gill continued to allay fears that the injury was particularly serious for the winger.
Obviously this has been a process for a while getting him back fit and training and this is just a little bump in the road for him.
