Norwich City centre back Cristoph Zimmerman has spoken of his passion for defending.
Zimmerman says that he loves defending, winning tackles and headers and hates conceding goals.
The club officially confirmed the signing on their club website, announcing that the defender has signed a two-year contract.
Zimmerman left Dortmund at the end of the 2016/17 season, as he looked to further his career and move club, which he has now done as he follows Daniel Farke to Norwich.
Farke was appointed as Norwich’s head coach from Dortmund II and he has now made his first signing from his former club.
Speaking to Norwich’s website, Zimmerman said this:
Of course with my physical constitution I like the in-fights, I like winning headers. And, first of all, as a defender I like to defend and I like it if we don’t concede any goals – that’s always the biggest aim for a defender. Defending is my passion: sliding tackles on wet grass, headers, all of that sort of stuff which we would call man’s football – that’s what I like.
Zimmerman was Farke’s captain at Dortmund and now joins the Canaries on a free transfer.
The German has signed a two-year deal, with the option of a third year.
The 24-year-old spent three years at Dortmund and was a main reason behind their defensive success last season, conceding the fewest goals in the division.
Zimmerman joins Timm Klose and Russell Martin as Norwich’s only centre back options, as well as becoming the youngest central defender at the club.
