I write this because I feel that a certain number of Norwich City fans think Roy Hodgson isn’t what we need.
Well I am here to tell you, you are all wrong!
Forget Liverpool, England and Inter Milan for a second and look at what he has done with the lesser clubs, your Norwich’s if you will.
Time and time again, he rode to the rescue of teams faltering. Fulham, Blackburn and West Brom to name a few.
A quick look at signings and where those teams ended up shows what a great job on more limited budgets he has done.
Blackburn finished 6th in his first full season and Fulham went on to play a UEFA cup final and stabilised as a top-half Premier League team.
West Brom, his last league side finished 11th in his first season. This after Albion lost 13 of their 18 games before he arrived.
He has plucked the likes of Brede Hangeland and Zoltan Gera from places we didn’t know existed.
Who the hell was Chris Smalling back then? Roy knew.
There’s a trend here, a man who can look at a broken side and plug the gaps. A man who signs players you haven’t heard of who in turn become better than you could have imagined.
What would we give for a Ben Foster or Shane Long right now… the freedom of the city perhaps?
I quick look at his CV and he’s travelled, a lot. So there’s no excuse that Norwich is a bit “out of the way”.
My final point on Roy is this; if the ex- Grasshoppers of Zurich and Swiss National team coach can’t get our Timm back to his best, I doubt anyone can and as history has shown he might just find him the next Brede Hangeland play with!
So for me Roy fits the bill, even if its just short term.
But isn’t every managers job short term these days?
