Norwich City Monthly Awards: October

After opening October with consecutive wins against Wolves at Molineux and Rotherham at Carrow Road, it seemed the race for the Championship top two was still on track for the Canaries. This is even despite the fact that Norwich had not played at their best on many occassions.

However, it has turned out to be an overall month of disappointment and missed opportunity for Alex Neil’s Norwich, the slump in results starting with a 2-0 lead being lost away to Fulham.

Four days later, the words ‘worst Norwich have played all season’ echoed around a dismal Carrow Road, following an alarmingly poor 0-1 loss to Preston North End.

One harrowing defeat to Leeds in the cup later (a game in which Norwich led twice, and then failed to convert three penalties in the shootout), came an embarrassing trouncing from Brighton away. Chris Hughton’s Seagulls terrorised a shambolic Norwich defence into leaking five goals; former Crystal Palace striker Glenn Murray, a talisman many Norwich faithful wrote top of their transfer wishlist, scored a hat-trick.

Despite not having kept a clean sheet in twelve league games now, with Northern Irish goalkeeper Michael McGovern at fault for three Brighton goals last Saturday, nevertheless, Alex Neil’s Yellow Army remain well inside the play-off positions in fourth place.

There have been a number of noteworthy individual player performances, goals, saves, and tackles that warrant a place in our October Monthly Awards.
