Norwich are said to be closing in on the signing of free agent defender Modibo Diakite, according to reports from Italy.
It’s believed that Alex Neil wants to add some experience to his defence as Norwich continue their battle towards promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking and has identified Diakite as a possible addition.
The Frenchman is a free agent after being released by Sampdoria at the end of last season and has been contacted by Norwich about a possible short-term move to Carrow Road.

Serie A outfit Pescara were linked with a move for Diakite after one of their centre-backs Norbert Gyomber suffered a long-term injury, but it seems that their interest has cooled and he will be joining Norwich.
While Paolo Di Canio was manager of Sunderland, he signed Diakite following his release from Lazio in the summer of 2013. However, he made just eight appearances for the Black Cats and was sent out on loan to Fiorentina until the end of the season.
Since then, free transfer moves to Deportivo La Coruna, Cagliari, Frosinone and Sampdoria have followed for Diakite without being able to make any of the moves stick.
At 29, Diakite still has a lot to offer clubs, especially on a short-term basis. This would be a very low-risk move for Norwich to make.
