Norwich City goalkeeper Michael McGovern has spoken of his disappointment after today’s 1-0 defeat to Preston North End.
The defeat comes as a surprise for Norwich fans – with the loss being the first one that Norwich have suffered at Carrow Road this season. This leaves Aston Villa with the only unbeaten home record in Championship this season.
Norwich never got going in the game, with Preston setting out their stall early on and doing a fantastic job of containing the home side.
Cameron Jerome missed a plethora of chances in front of goal, as Norwich rued their missed opportunities.
Preston have been praised for their work from set-pieces this season, and that was their source of success again today. Alex Baptiste headed home from seven yards out after a free-kick delivery to hand Preston the three points.
Speaking to Norwich’s website after the match, Norwich ‘keeper McGovern said this:
We knew they were going to be dangerous on set-pieces and for whatever reason we switched off.
It’s bitterly disappointing as we deserved something from the game. It was a good header but first and foremost if we match the runner we stop the goal.
We’ll analyse it and see where it went wrong. It’s important to do that so you can see where to do things better to improve for our next game.
That’s what we’ll be doing tomorrow. We need to get back to basics in terms of keeping clean sheets.
McGovern made a number of fine stops during the match but was unable to earn City the points in the end.
