Norwich City progressed through into the next round of the EFL Cup tonight with a shock 2-0 win over Premier League side Everton.
Alex Neil’s side were the rank outsiders coming into the match, with Everton much-fancied to ease past Norwich and move into the next round of the cup.
Norwich, however, produced a shock and are now in the pot for the next round – which will be drawn tomorrow after all of the fixtures are concluded.
It was Everton old boy Steven Naismith who opened the scoring in interesting circumstances. Debutante Nelson Oliveira played a delicious backheel through to Naismith, who slipped and mishit the shot into the top corner to give Norwich the lead.
Everton’s misery was then compounded in the second half when Josh Murphy doubled the lead with a moment of magic. He jinked past a number of Everton defenders before curling a strike into the top left corner from the edge of the box.
