Norwich City midfielder Steven Naismith claimed that Norwich’s impressive 4-1 victory over Blackburn was a “sign of intent” from the squad, and that they intend to gain promotion this year.
Speaking to the Norwich City website, he said:
It shows our intent and what we want to do this year. Today it was about the result, but with the performance I think we had everything today.
The Scottish-forward scored the fourth goal of the afternoon to complete the rout, other goalscorers included Jacob Murphy, Wes Hoolahan and Cameron Jerome.
Everybody in the team knew their roles and it worked well for us. We had to go out there and stamp our authority on the game and that’s what we did. It clicked into place for the whole team today
Norwich are clearly showing signs of strength and togetherness following their relegation in May which seems like a long time ago following this afternoon’s victory.
During the interview, Steven also heaped the praise on Jacob Murphy like Alex Neil, who’d scored a cracker from the best part of thirty-yards on his Norwich City league debut to open the scoring on the twelfth minute.
In the interview he also went on to talk about the importance of early goals and how they often set the tone and tempo of the game,
Every result builds momentum and confidence. We wanted to start the season well and that’s what we did.
Hopefully Norwich will show more of the same in a week’s time against Sheffield Wednesday, and so it’s back to the training ground to ensure they get things right.
