Thompson set to be part of Alex Neil’s plans

Norwich City midfielder Louis Thompson could be set to feature for the Canaries this coming Championship season, after reports of a loan move to League One side Charlton Athletic looks to have been scuppered.

According to the News Shopper, plans for Athletic to take on the 21-year-old midfielder to bolster their squad are now “unlikely to materialise”, with reports previously suggesting he could be part of a double deal with Declan Rudd. Rudd has since joined Athletic on a season-long loan.

It is understood Thompson has since been given assurances that he will be in Alex Neil’s plans for the coming season, after contact between Athletic and Thompson’s representatives being made last month.

The 21-year-old, who signed from Swindon Town in 2014 for a deal worth between £600,000 rising to £1 million, was loaned back to Swindon for the remainder of the season.

Thompson had since featured partially for the City’s Under-21 team before returning to the Wiltshire club on two loan deals.

He has also featured in the majority of City’s preseason fixtures, gaining warm reviews from City fans.

However, now an accomplished League One midfielder, it seems as though Alex Neil could be ready to test him out on a new platform as City hope to bounce back to the Premier League on their first attempt.

matchday.
