Aston Villa to hijack Norwich £10m move for McCormack

Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo is looking to steal Ross McCormack from under Norwich City’s nose amid fears of losing current forward Jordan Ayew, reports the Mail Online.

The Italian is concerned going into their first Championship campaign with a worryingly weak strike force, if current top goalscorer Jordan Ayew departs before the season gets underway.

The Canaries are currently the favourites to sign the Fulham striker, in a deal believed to be above the £10m mark. But with negotiations still nowhere near completion, Villa are eyeing up a last-minute move for the Scottish forward.

If the Villans were to land McCormack, it would almost certainly offset the departure for their Ghanian frontman, who’s keen to play in the top flight to push his bid for his country’s team going into the Africa Cup of Nations. Although the club’s new Chinese owner is keen to keep hold of Ayew and strengthen the squad further.

McCormack has been left behind while Fulham’s squad are in Portugal, and they want a replacement before they sell their top scorer.

With 23 goals last season for a side that flirted with relegation last season, McCormack provides the Championship pedigree up front that both Villa and Norwich desperately need if either side is to make an instant return to the top flight.
