Norwich are set to secure a deal for York starlet Ben Godfrey at a cut price, according to reports in the Mirror.
Godfrey is only 17, however, he has been challenging for a place in the York City side this season.
It is believed that a £30,000 bid has been made for the midfielder and that Norwich are confident a deal can be struck next week
Godfrey would become Norwich’s second January signing, with Matt Jarvis joining the club permanently on January 2.
As Godfrey is yet to sign a senior contract with York, his compensation will be considerably lower than if he had. In total, with compensation and add-ons, the deal should amount to £80,000.
Alex Neil made the trip north to see Godfrey in action when he was a 56th-minute substitute in Portsmouth’s 6-0 destruction of his York side.
This season, Godfrey has made 14 appearances for York and got himself on the scoresheet on two occasions.
Godfrey can play competently at both centre-back and as a defensive midfielder, meaning he can provide much-needed cover for Sebastien Bassong and Ryan Bennett.
