Norwich midfielder banned from driving

Former West Ham and Queens Park Rangers player Gary O’Neil has been banned from driving according to the BBC.

O’Neil, currently with Premier League side Norwich City, has lost his licence for six months after being caught speeding at 103mph and 97mph in two separate incidents.

He was clocked on the A11 in Norfolk and then again on the A14 in Suffolk.

The 32-year-old admitted the offences and was fined £1,750 for his troubles but reportedly plans to appeal the disqualification.

O’Neil told the court he would be fined a week’s wages if he was late to training, which was the reason for his breakneck pace.

Remarkably, O’Neil was commuting from his home in London to Norwich for training – a round trip of near-on 260 miles.

Magistrates were asked to hold the ban whilst the appeal process was underway, but they refused to do so. It therefore begins with immediate effect.

Looks like it might be a train ride for O’Neil to make training for the foreseeable future.
