Turner joins Sheffield Wednesday

Today has seen the departure of Norwich City’s Michael Turner as confirmed by the club. The 31-year-old defender has joined Championship side Sheffield Wednseday on a season-long loan from the Canaries.

The Englishman made a move to Carrow Road in the Summer of 2012, joining from Sunderland for an undisclosed fee. Michael went on to make 74 appearances for the club, netting 4 times, with a header at the Emirates Stadium being the most memorable.

Turner had a good start to the 14/15 season, he was featured regularly under Adams. However come the arrival of Alex Neil, the veteran defender found himself out of favour despite making 24 appearances for the Canaries that season. This saw Turner sent out on loan to fellow Championship side Fulham on an emergency loan in March of 2014. Ever since his arrival back at Carrow Road, the Englishman has been almost certain to depart the club.

Now that Turner has departed on loan, this leaves Norwich with just three centre-halves; a worrying fact. Currently the Canaries possess the services of Bassong, Martin and Bennett. But there is most definitely not enough depth in order to succeed this season. So with Turner’s departure it suggests that arrivals are imminent! The likes of Koulibaly and N’koulou are names of which have been linked with a move to Carrow Road as of late.

With Turner joining the Owls, it also marks a qustion as to whether striker Gary Hooper shall also complete his move shortly… But for now, Turner has joined Sheffield Wednesday on a season-long loan with Norwich City interested in a wide range of replacements.

matchday.
