Goals. Needed for Norwich. Needed to win games. Needed for Premier League survival.
With last season’s output coming from Cameron Jerome, Lewis Grabban and Gary Hooper, can they continue their goal scoring form into the Premier League campaign? I’m not sure.
Norwich’s record signing Ricky van Wolfswinkel is free for selection after completing his loan spell at French outfit Saint Etienne, however, he seems to be out of City’s plans, as he wasn’t featured in the squad for this past Saturday’s match against Crystal Palace, and has also been given a squad number change, from no. 9 to 29. Kyle Lafferty, another one of Alex Neil’s options, also looks to be heading out of Carrow Road.
Coming in, who? Congolese striker Dieumerci Mbokani is a name thats been heavily linked to a move to Norfolk and I feel he is the one that will make the impact. Here are my thoughts.
Although the 29-year old has shown his work in the Belgian League and Ukrainian League respectively, over the last few years Mbokani has always been tipped for a move to the Premier League. I’m hoping he finally gets his move, that being to the Canaries. The 6-foot-1 striker is well known for his time at RSC Anderlecht in the Belgian League. During his Belgian stint he scored 34 goals in 53 appearances for the league champions.
Norwich fans including myself are hoping a striker will come in before the 1st September and will rack up some goals for Norwich. As we’ve learnt over the years, chances don’t come thick and fast in the Premier League like they do in the Championship. Therefore a striker who is proven at scoring goals is needed.
Mbokani’s height may trouble defenders keeping their mark on in a match. From highlights of his goals, a good 75 p/c of them are headers, and fantastic ones on that note. Other noticeable attributes of the player are his pace and strength. Now, for Norwich, I think this is needed. Mbokani not only bring these qualities to the club, but he also brings competition to City’s current squad. With that, this can give current strikers a motive to perform more efficiently and cement themselves in manager Alex Neil’s thoughts.
At 29-years old, Mbokani isn’t the youngest but he is the right age to join the Premier League. He’s reached full potential, that being scoring goals and thats what he can bring to this football club.
