A statement from the club earlier today confirmed that “Ignasi Miquel is set to leave on Friday, July 31st after an agreement was made to end his contract by mutual consent.”
The 22 year old Spaniard made only two appearances as part of what was a broadly shaky and, at times, heavily altered back line which is arguably the primary reason why this agreement was reached.
Miquel arrived as a deadline day signing in the summer transfer window of last season’s Championship campaign on a three year deal with an option in place for a one year extension – a deal which was surely evidence of Neil Adams’ viewing of him as a future prospect (a view which presumably was not shared by new helmsman, Alex Neil.)
While there will be precious few Canary fans losing sleep over the club parting company with Ignasi, some will be wondering why he wasn’t loaned out instead – although that may never have been in the minds of either the manager or the player himself.
On behalf of everyone of everyone at Read Norwich, I’d like to wish Miquel all the best with his footballing future, although, if he ever fancies a career in modelling I’m sure we’d welcome him back with open arms!
