RUMOUR | Canaries chirping for Serie A wide man

Following Norwich’s 1-0 preseason loss to Maccabi Haifa, manager Alex Neil said he was frustrated with ‘waiting on things to happen’ in the transfer window.

Yet less than 24 hours since his statement his club have been linked with two different players.

Liverpool’s forward Ricky Lambert has been linked to Colney, as well as Serie A left-back Marcos Alonso. The Eastern Daily Press said a link with the Fiorentina wide man would cost an estimated £2.8m for the 24-year-old former Real Madrid player.

Alonso played in 35 matches last season, a considerable chunk for a team five points shy of qualifying for the Champions League. He’s also played with Bolton and in 2014, with Sunderland on loan.

With Martin Olsson still recovering from shoulder surgery, Alonso would be a decent addition to the newly promoted squad. Whether he’d play exclusively at left-back or in the midfield, he’s a considerable candidate.

Although the likelihood of this link actually coming into fruition seems to rely on Hull’s decision to let winger Robbie Brady go. If Norwich do sign Brady, that may halt plans on the Alonso front.

Either way, he’d be a respectable signing and at worst could be a backup that can replace Javier Garrido’s old utility role.

Maybe Neil won’t have to wait much longer for things to happen.
