It has been confirmed that ex-West Bromwich midfielder and now free agent Youssouf Mulumbu has signed for Norwich City on a two year deal.
He becomes Norwich City’s second transfer of this summer window and joins ex-teammate Graham Dorrans, who completed a permanent move after a successful loan spell.
Mulumbu will likely offer cover for Alex Tettey in the centre of midfield, however Alex Neil may have plans to integrate him into the first team squad. Making 187 appearances for the Midlands side during a six year period, Mulumbu certainly has the Premier League experience that some of the current Norwich players may lack, and therefore can only be a positive addition.
West Brom manager Tony Pulis decided to release Mulumbu on the 25th May despite having the option of an extra year. He has since been searching for a new club.
We spoke to our friends at Read West Brom for their opinion:
“Mulumbu really would be a great addition to the Norwich side. He hasn’t been on the top of his game over the last 12 months but can still easily walk into any side out of the top 7 in the Premier League. He’ll instantly rekindle his old friendship with Dorrans which will only help him settle in quickly. He’s a hard hitting midfielder who can also pop up with an important goal; something every promoted side needs.” – Alex Newton, TBW Editor
“To see a fantastic servant to the club leave is always sad, and the same applies to Mulumbu. He deserves to play in the Premier League and I am pleased to see another top flight club secure his services. Mulumbu’s ability to protect the back four is very important. At the age of 28, he still has plenty to offer Norwich in their bid for survival, and I’m sure he will be a great addition for them.” – David Bates, TBW writer
Most importantly, this was the song West Brom fans adopted during his time at the Hawthorns:
“He comes from Africa,
He’s better than Kaka,
MULUMBU WOAH, MULUMBU WOAH”
