We are now on the downhill towards the end of the season. That means it is almost to time to select the player of the season. Given Bradley Johnson’s recent form this might seem like a fairly easy choice, but I am here to open that debate back up. I have three candidates here for who I think our player of the season has been to this point, so it’s time to predict who will follow up Robert Snodgrass for the award.
The first player is the man, the myth, the legend, Bradley Johnson. He has been vital in commanding the centre of the park this season. He has ten goals this season including some very notable ones. Our first goal of the season vs. Watford, two massive winners vs. Blackburn, and of course that screamer against Ipswich. In my opinion he is the glue that holds this entire team together. He knows exactly when to get forward to help out the attack, and puts his body on the line when needed. I think that without a doubt if something were to happen to Russell Martin, Bradley Johnson would be our captain. The team and the crowd respond to him, and maybe he should be doing fist pumps after wins instead of that guy called “Chambers” at Ipswich. I’m not the only one who thinks Johnson is a contender, David was very complimentary of him earlier in the season.
My next choice for player of the season is Cameron Jerome. His five goals in three games just after signing for us got him off the mark and helped pick up some points that could prove vital. He is the leading scorer right now with 17 goals and is the big striker that we all wanted to capture after the debacle of Ricky Van Wolfswinkel. He is always putting himself into good positions and usually is clinical with the chances that he gets. He makes an instant impact when he comes off the bench as we saw Sunday. Defenses have to re-think their plan while he is on the pitch, and we saw how quick of an impact he made against Ipswich just minutes after coming on. His quality helps us win now and could be massive next season if we go up.
My third player up for consideration is Lewis Grabban. While his form did die a little bit in the middle of the season, he is the man to be credited with our flying start that had us top of the table after September. Relegation hangover is not hard to contract, just ask Fulham and Cardiff about their starts to the season. A team that is still getting their feet wet in a new division needs a player that keeps the ship stable and provides goals early in the season. Lewis Grabban did just that with five goals in a four game span early in the season. And of course he has scored in every East Anglian Derby he has played in, which makes him an instant hero. Below is Chris, a familiar face from our Fan Cams giving his thoughts on Grabban earlier in the season.
Those are the three players that I think lead the race for Norwich City player of the season so far. Will anybody separate themselves from the pack over the latter stage of this season? Maybe a player like Nathan Redmond will step up down the stretch. Leave me your thoughts in the comments!
