Bradley Johnson puts pen to paper in 3.5 year deal

The club have confirmed that central midfielder Bradley Johnson has signed a new 3½ year contract which will keep him at the club until 2018.

The deal has come off the back of the player having an increasingly crucial role in the side’s promotion push, having scored 8 goals this season, providing assists for further two. His leadership skills have arguably been more prevalent than those of our captain Russell Martin, and TCC contributor Chris Reeve recently claimed that he ‘deserves the captaincy’. The bearded warrior certainly has a strong passion for the club, and that appears to be providing him with the drive to do well for Norwich, and the determination to return to the Premier League.

Johnson originally signed for the club under Paul Lambert in 2011, and was the first of 4 players to move from Leeds United. During his 4 seasons at the club, he’s enjoyed 125 appearances scoring a total of 14 goals. His first came in Norwich’s 1-2 away win at Bolton where he guided in a cross beautifully via the ‘keeper’s right-hand post. Over the course of his Norwich career, fans have watched him turn from a relatively immobile midfielder into an athlete whose stamina is beaten by few. While he was criticised for his lack of passing ability, this season he’s proved to be a key player; an exceptional asset at this level of football.

He’s even won the Goal Of The Month twice this season; firstly for a delightful lob against Watford back in August, and more recently for a powerful, precise half-volley away to Reading. If he continues in the same vein, he’ll be on course for a more prestigious award: Player Of The Season. You can watch both goals below.

matchday.
