This weekend we take on Wolves- by far the biggest game of our season so far in my opinion, a match with promotion implications for both teams, and one that could set the tone for a big month ahead. I would go as far as saying the next month will make or break our season. About 27,000 Norwich fans will pack into Carrow Road, eat one of Delia’s delicious pies, have a few drinks, and have a good time. But are we really doing our job? First of all, I am not pointing at every Norwich fan. I know that the there are some (the people on this site in particular) who sing their hearts out and try to urge the team forward. But most people don’t. They sit down and just watch the match as if they were at home, what good is that doing us, or the club? Nothing.
With a big promotion clash this weekend and Ipswich on the horizon here is my message to the fans. There are only eight more home games this season, make the most of them. Sing loudly, cheer the team on. Scream if you have to. You guys are lucky to be at Carrow Road every Saturday, as an American Canary I know this. Every Saturday I go through countless tweets and links looking for a stream of the match. I would give a lot to be at Carrow Road for even a friendly, let alone a crucial promotion clash.
Us not doing our job is the reason that our ground is not feared by some opponents anymore. When we went up in 2010-11, we scored a total of 12 goals at Carrow Road in the 85th minute or later, that is not a coincidence. When the players would get tired, our fans would give them a little more energy to push us through. Between turning losses into draws and draws into wins those goals saved us 12 points, the equivalent of four wins, just in late goals at Carrow Road.
Without those goals, Norwich would have finished 7th and not gone up that year. The fans were just as big of a factor as the players. We don’t have that this season. I know we got one away last night, and that was with amazing away support. That needs to happen at home just as much, we have scored five in those last five minutes at Carrow Road this season, saving a total of three points. Three out of those five goals were goals scored when we already held the lead – hardly a difference maker.
If you are going to Carrow Road on Saturday, or any time the rest of this season, please use your privilege. We need you guys to urge the players on, It is the same price weather you help the team or not. If we are level or down a goal and pushing forward with five minutes to go Saturday, what will you do? Will you watch and hope for the goal that we need, or do your part in the match? Think about it. OTBC!
