Birmingham City manager Chris Davies blamed the match officials after Norwich City secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Carrow Road on Wednesday.
Tactical Discipline Delivers Home Victory
Philippe Clement structured his side to absorb significant aerial pressure before Oscar Schwartau and Pape Amadou Diallo capitalised with first-half goals. Davies felt aggrieved after Liam Millar saw an early effort ruled out for a tight offside.
Speaking to East Renfrewshire News, Davies expressed his frustration. “In my 118 games in charge I can’t remember feeling so disappointed with the officials as I am tonight,” he said.
Midfielder Schwartau praised his freedom to shoot from distance. “It was pretty important for the team and myself. I didn’t play that well up until the goal, but to score a goal like that is always a great feeling,” he told The Pink Un.
Stepping Up To Physical Challenges
Clement acknowledged the need to adapt against aerially dominant opposition. He told East Renfrewshire News: “We were up against a team who are very direct, a team who have won the most headed duels in the Championship this season, so it was important that we stepped up to the challenge.”
The hosts were boosted by striker Jovon Makama returning from a seven-month injury layoff during the second half. Norwich now prepare to visit Middlesbrough on Saturday as they look to build momentum.
