Norwich City Women have strengthened their defence by signing Zofia Szczech from Loughborough Lightning ahead of the new FA Women’s National League season.
Norwich City Women confirmed the signing as the club continue to reshape the squad before returning to the FAWNL Northern Premier Division.
The move follows an active summer at The Nest. Read Norwich has already covered how goalkeeper Poppy Irvine became Norwich’s first major summer addition, with Szczech now adding further experience to the defensive group.
Szczech Brings Experience At The Right Level
Szczech arrives with recent experience of the FA Women’s National League after her spell with Loughborough Lightning.
Loughborough Lightning confirmed that she left the club following graduation, while the FA’s competition records credited her with 25 appearances and five assists during the 2025/26 campaign.
Those numbers make the move easy to understand.
Norwich are preparing for a demanding Tier 3 season against opponents including Derby County, Hull City, Liverpool Feds, Middlesbrough, Rugby Borough, Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion.
Szczech already knows the level. She arrives with senior minutes behind her and gives Norwich another reliable option before the campaign begins.
It is not a headline signing built on reputation. It is a practical piece of recruitment that strengthens an area Clement’s women’s side will need across a long league season.
