Norwich City’s summer transfer picture has sharpened around one position: left-back.
A fresh update from The72 says Cheikh Niasse is not currently a Norwich target despite earlier Italian-led reports around talks with Hellas Verona. More importantly, the same report frames left-back as the present priority for the Canaries.
That matters because Philippe Clement’s rebuild cannot be judged only by the number of new arrivals. It has to solve the structural issues that made Norwich too stretched in transition last season.

Clement Needs Balance Before The Serious Work Starts
Ryan Giles has already been placed on Norwich’s radar by Football Insider, and the link fits the updated direction. Giles offers Championship experience, attacking width and delivery from a flank where Norwich need cleaner progression.
ReadNorwich previously tracked the Ryan Giles link as part of Clement’s left-sided rebuild, and this latest priority update keeps that route firmly in view.
There is also a timing issue. Norwich have already confirmed their first-team pre-season schedule, with King’s Lynn Town first up on July 4 before the Championship campaign begins in August. Clement needs patterns rehearsed early, not late-window patchwork.
The Niasse noise may fade quickly, but it still reveals something useful. Norwich are trying to keep discipline in the market while fixing the positions that alter the shape of the team.
If the next move is a left-back, it will not be a cosmetic signing. It will be a direct attempt to give Clement’s Norwich side better balance before promotion pressure properly begins.
