- Modern star who ranks among City’s greatest historical goalscoring heroes.
Following on from yesterday’s top ten best signings, today we look at Norwich City’s top 5 leading goalscorers.
Unsurprisingly, there are a couple of crossovers, but I’ll not spoil it for you (I’m sure you’ve already guessed. From pre-war heroes to modern-day Premier League icons, the Canaries’ faithful have witnessed some of English football’s finest in front of goal.
Here is the definitive breakdown of City’s top five all-time leading goalscorers:
1. Johnny Gavin – 132 Goals
Sitting proudly at the top is Irish winger and forward Johnny Gavin. Playing across two spells in the 1940s and 1950s (1949–1954 and 1955–1958), Gavin racked up 132 goals in 338 appearances. Known for his blistering pace and clinical aerial ability despite playing heavily on the flank, Gavin’s legendary standard has remained unbroken for nearly seven decades.
2. Terry Allcock – 127 Goals
Fiercely chasing Gavin’s record throughout the 1960s was Terry Allcock, who netted 127 goals in 389 games between 1958 and 1969. Incredibly, Allcock was a utility man. He arrived at the club as a prolific inside-forward but spent the latter half of his Norwich career playing as a dependable half-back and central defender, making his goal-scoring tally even more astonishing. He was, of course, one of the legendary 59ers.
3. Iwan Roberts – 97 Goals
An old-school target man, gap-toothed Welshman and all-round nice guy, Iwan Roberts became a modern cult hero at Carrow Road. Finding the net 97 times in 306 appearances between 1997 and 2004, Iwan was lethal in the air and a brilliant and unmovable focal point. His goals spearheaded Norwich’s resurgence in the late 90s, culminating in Division One promotion in his final season.
4. Teemu Pukki – 88 Goals
Perhaps the most clinical finisher in the club’s modern history, Finnish striker Teemu Pukki took Norfolk by storm. Arriving on a free transfer in 2018, Teemu scored 88 goals in just 210 games before departing in 2023. His intelligent movement and ruthless one-on-one composure guided the Canaries to two EFL Championship titles, and he remains the club’s most prolific scorer of the 21st century.
5. Robert Fleck – 84 Goals
Rounding out the top five is Scottish striker and another all-round nice guy, Robert Fleck, who enjoyed two spells with the club (1987–1992 and 1995–1998). Fleckie scored 84 goals in 299 games, with his first stint cementing his status as an elite top-flight striker. Aggressive, tenacious, sharp in the penalty box, and the best volleyer of a ball I’ve ever seen, Fleck was voted into the Norwich City Hall of Fame for his unforgettable contributions to the club’s golden late-80s era.
The Elite Five: Collectively, these five have scored 528 goals for Norwich City, spanning over 70 years of Carrow Road footballing history.
