- A breakdown of United States and Canadian Norwich City players
- The known, the less well-known and an honourable mention
- Will we see more from Attanasio in the future?
With the 2026 World Cup taking place in North America, here is a quick recap of the players from the continent who played for Norwich City.
Honourable mention: Kei Kamara
While he played in North America, Kei Kamara was actually from Sierra Leone.
However I am including him anyway because I like him.
Josh Sargent
Say it ain’t so Josh!
History will probably be kinder to Josh Sargent. But there can be no denying that after years of working hard for the team and scoring goals in the Championship it was sad to see him weaselling out of a game via text message.
Suffice it to say, Philippe Clement was not impressed.
Zak Whitbread
Perhaps not the biggest name on this list, it is easy to forget this mighty defender was part of the team from 2010 to 2012 and was a big part in our promotion campaign.
Sebastian Soto
Sadly, some players don’t get the break. The forward played for Norwich City from 2020 to 2022 but unfortunately never got the chance to represent the team at the senior level.
Jim Brennan
A website I’ve seen lists him as a midfielder but I’m sure I remember he was a right back. Either way, he was a solid addition to the team and he seemed like a likeable, hard-working part of the squad.
Simeon Jackson
Simeon Jackson is a name people may not always bring up. However, I still remember seeing that goal against Portsmouth that got us promoted.
It was a whirlwind night at Oakie’s in Beccles as I did some kind of improvised country dancing and glugged from a bottle of champagne that was being passed around.
And, of course, there was that never-to-be-forgotten ‘Chris Goreham’ moment when he scored that last-minute winner against Derby as City edged closer to promotion that season.
But besides my own nostalgia he was an excellent striker and a strong addition to the team.
Ali Ahmed
The newest addition to this list, Ali Ahmed initially seemed to hit the ground running both literally and figuratively as a pacey winger who provided some much needed additional width and dynamism.
While he faded a bit toward the end of the season, he remains a great addition to the team.
The future…
With our new American chairman Mark Attansio in charge, it wouldn’t be surprising if we had more North American arrivals this summer.
The World Cup offers a great chance for scouting new players and hopefully those at the tournament can put in a good word for Norwich City!
