- Norwich start making moves to improve their squad before the window opens.
- Philippe Clement has struggled in the wide areas throughout his time at the club.
- The Canaries face a difficult task to convince the player to move to Norfolk.
Norwich City still have two games left to play in the Championship this season, yet Ben Knapper is already making moves behind the scenes.
Whilst there is a minute chance that the Canaries reach the play-offs, the sporting director is looking to improve the squad ahead of next season’s play-off push.
Philippe Clement looks set to be backed by the owners and Knapper, with a bid having been made to bolster the manager’s options out wide.
Norwich submit offer to sign Serie B star
According to the print edition Gazzetta dello Sport (24/04/26), via Sport Witness, Norwich City are one of the teams interested in signing Fares Ghedjemis from Serie B side Frosinone.
The report claims that the Canaries have gone as far as to submit a £7.8m offer to convince the Italian team to part ways with the right-sided attacker.
Wolverhampton Wanderers, whose relegation to the Championship was confirmed this week, and Scottish giants Celtic are also said to be keen on securing his signature.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport adds that Ghedjemis is not attracted to the prospect of playing in England’s second tier and would prefer a move to the Premier League as his ideal destination.
It also states that his value could soar after the 2026 World Cup, if he impresses with Algeria, and that could throw another spanner in the works for Norwich.
The perfect signing…
Ghedjemis is the kind of player Norwich have desperately lacked all season because of Matej Jurasek and Ante Crnac’s injury issues.
The Algeria international is a left-footed right winger who has scored 14 goals and created 11 ‘big chances’ in 34 appearances in the Serie B this season.
For context, no Norwich winger has scored more than four goals or created more than nine ‘big chances’ after 44 Championship games this term.
Ghedjemis could provide the team with the injection of quality that they have lacked in that area of the pitch throughout Clement’s reign.
When watching him play, you can tell that the 23-year-old star grew up watching Riyad Mahrez play for his country, as he excels at dribbling with pace and cutting in from the right to curl shots in with his left foot.
However, it seems like Knapper and Clement have some convincing to do to in order to get a move over the line, due to his apparent lack of interest in playing in the Championship.
Norwich had Kasper Høgh, who was playing in the Champions League at the time, wanting to sign for the Canaries and convinced Clement to take the job in the first place, though, which shows how persuasive they can be.
Hopefully, the Canaries can find a way to make this deal work because Ghedjemis seems like the perfect signing on paper.
