Norwich target Gibson wants to leave Burnley this month

Norwich City transfer target Ben Gibson is reportedly ready to quit Burnley this month in the pursuit of regular first-team football.

According to The Mirror, Gibson is frustrated by his lack of minutes at Turf Moor and is now open to leaving the club before the end of the window.

TeamTalk linked Norwich with interest in Gibson earlier this season, which suggests that he could be a player on their radar this month as they look to avoid relegation back to the Championship.

Norwich have conceded the most goals in the Premier League this season, so there is no doubt that they need to strengthen their defence in the transfer window over the next few weeks. In Gibson’s Premier League season for Middlesbrough, he recorded an average WhoScored rating of 6.82. This is higher than any of Norwich’s current centre-backs, with Christoph Zimmermann currently the highest at 6.64, with Hanley at 6.59, Godfrey at 6.51 and Amadou at 6.48.

Gibson would also be a valuable addition to the squad simply due to the fact he is left-footed. It should not be underestimated how important it is to have a left-sided centre-back who is naturally left-footed, which Gibson is. Norwich currently have Hanley playing there, who is not good enough on the ball with either foot let alone his weak foot. Too many times we have seen Hanley try to play a pass across his body out to the left and skew it wildly out of play or straight to an opposition player.

Bringing Gibson in would give Norwich a natural outlet to play the ball out from the back down the left, allowing Daniel Farke’s side to build their play quicker and be more effective going forward. This is why he would be a good signing for the Canaries if they can get him in this month.
