Norwich opted against free agent swoop – who could they have looked at?

Norwich City have reportedly decided not to sign any free agents despite the current injury crisis at the club.

According to Michael Bailey of The Atheltic, Norwich did take a look into possible free signings, but were unable to find any players who would have improved the squad.

This comes after a spate of unfortunate injuries, with Max Aarons, Christoph Zimmermann, Timm Klose, Grant Hanley, Tom Trybull, Mo Leitner, Onel Hernandez, Mario Vrancic, Ben Godfrey and Tim Krul all injured or major doubts at present.

With all four centre-backs out, it is a reasonable assumption to say they looked into potential signings in that position. At present, Serdar Tasci, Younes Kaboul, Efe Ambrose, Gabriel Paletta and Johan Djourou are all centre-backs available on free transfers.

Could any of them do a job for Norwich in the Premier League this season? Ambrose and Paletta certainly not, given the levels they played at last term – Scotland and China.

Kaboul, however, has almost 200 Premier League appearances under his belt, whilst Djourou played in the Serie A for SPAL last season.

Although, there is no way of knowing their current injury status or wage demands, which may have been a reason for Norwich deciding against bringing them in on short-term deals.
