READ NORWICH VERDICT
After struggling with injuries throughout his time with Norwich, is this the perfect chance for Thompson to revive his career?
Absolutely. If he can stay fit, he will have the opportunity to play regular football at a decent level, potentially pushing for promotion – as Ben Godfrey did at Shrewsbury in the 2017/18 campaign.
The defensive midfielder joined Norwich from Swindon in 2014, but has only mustered 16 first-team appearances for the club – eight of which came last season.
Thompson will now be hoping to avoid injuries and make himself a regular in Sam Rickett’s starting XI, potentially with the view to coming back and fighting for a spot in Norwich’s squad next summer – if they are in the Premier League or the Championship.
There is no doubting his quality, after he impressed at the start of last season in a holding midfield role for Daniel Farke. His ability to cover ground across the middle of the pitch, whilst also being able to bomb forward and create chances, make him a valuable asset when fit.
