Norwich City confirmed earlier this week that young goalkeeper Aston Oxborough has completed a loan move to Wealdsone FC.

Oxborough has signed for the National League South side on a loan deal until January, which could suggest that the club hope to find him a club in the Football League for the second-half of the season.

The youngster made his debut for Wealdstone on Saturday as they beat Dartford 4-1 in their opening league clash.

But does he have the potential to be a future Norwich number one?

Oxborough has been highly rated from a young age and capped by England four times at under-16 level earlier in his career.

The 21-year-old has been Norwich’s first-choice at under-23 level for several seasons and was named on the bench on a few occasions in the Championship last season.

However, it is odd to see him loaned out to a side so low down in the English football pyramid, although that may just be down to not many teams looking for new number ones this summer.

So to answer the question, yes. Oxborough has bags of ability, but needs to gain some experience before making it at Carrow Road. If he can enjoy a good spell with Wealdstone and then maybe a season or two with a team in League One or the Championship, he could come back to Norfolk and make his mark at his hometown club.

Could Oxborough be a future Norwich number one?
