Former Norwich City midfielder Dickson Etuhu has been charged with match fixing in Sweden, according to the Times.

The Nigerian, who is now a football agent, has been accused of bribing former team-mate Kenny Stamatopoulos of AIK Stockholm in an attempt to fix a match against Gothenburg.

The Swedish FA had been helping with the investigation, according to the counsel to the Swedish FA, Anders Hubinette.

He added that the FA has a mission to “prevent match-fixing.”

In as statement on Swedish TV, Etuhu’s lawyer John Akermark said:

He has not offered any bribe and he does not know anything about any bribe. He had a snack with the AIK goalkeeper, they knew each other and used to meet for lunch. He has an explanation of what happened and we will present it at the trial.

Etuhu has also been charged with a minor drugs offence after Police discovered cocaine during the search of the player’s property.

The former midfielder was a key player for City during his time at Carrow Road. Etuhu joined Norwich permanently for £450,000 after impressing on a loan spell. He would go on to play 54 matches and scored six goals, including one against Ipswich in a 1-1 draw at Carrow Road.

He would then leave the club to join Sunderland, before moves to Fulham and Blackburn. He would then move to Sweden to join AIK.
