Our man of the match: Reading (A)

Our man of the match: Reading (A)

Norwich City lost their ninth game in eleven matches today as they were put to the sword by Reading.

The Canaries travelled to Reading in hope of ending their dreadful run of away form – having lost their previous four matches away from home.

However, the home side ran out 3-1 winners to intensify the pressure on Norwich manager Alex Neil.

Neil’s side are now 12th in the Championship and are four points off the play-offs – whilst also having played a game more than sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday.

Norwich found themselves 1-0 down in the first half when Yann Kermogant headed home from a free-kick after John Ruddy completely missed an attempt to claim the ball.

Nelson Oliveira did draw Norwich level on the hour mark when he fired home neatly – his fourth in five games.

However, a red card for Jonny Howson and goals from Gareth McCleary and Callum Harriot sealed the three points for Reading.

There were few players deserving of any praise from the match today, so picking a man of the match has been hard.

I have gone with Nelson Oliveira.

It was utterly bemusing as to why Neil brought off Oliveira within ten minutes of him scoring – despite being 2-1 down with 20 minutes still to play.

Oliveira led the line well all afternoon and added a goal to match. He’s really coming into his own in a Norwich shirt – could a new manager instill even more confidence?…
