Leeds v Norwich: Opposition view

Norwich City travel to Elland Road tonight to face Leeds in the EFL Cup.

The winners will find themselves in the draw for the quarter-finals of the League Cup, which both Championship sides will be desperate to be a part of.

In the build-up to the game, I spoke with Leeds fan, and Southampton Solent student, Joe Wilson…

Firstly, what have you made of your start to the season?

I’m happy with our start to the season so far, we’re still in the cup and we’re only a few points off a play-off place so I can’t complain.

How have the fans taken to Gary Monk?

I think the fans have taken well to Monk. I think a lot of people are tired of Cellino’s managerial merry-go-round and Monk’s a good, young manager so the fans have gotten behind him which is great.

Would a cup run make up for recent mediocre seasons in the Championship?

10th in the table and 3 points off the play-offs is a great season by Leeds’ recent standards I’d say haha! I think a cup run’s always great but I think a lot of fans would rather take results in the league over results in the cup. So even if Leeds get to the next round, if we finish poorly in the league at the end of the season then the cup run will be forgotten about I think.

Do you think any Leeds players could improve Norwich’s side?

I think Pontus Jansson would walk right into Norwich’s defence and Chris Wood would improve them up front since he actually scores goals.

Do you feel a rivalry with Norwich after recent transfers between the clubs?

I don’t think there’s any rivalry, no. Clubs buying another clubs players is just part of football. Howson, Snoddy and Becchio were all brilliant for Leeds so no one can blame them for moving to a club with more chance of playing in the Premier League. I do wish we’d flogged Becchio for more money though instead of swapping him for cash plus Steve Morison because he was awful.

Finally, score prediction?
