Oliveira joins City: Twitter reacts

Norwich City have now officially announced the signing of Benfica striker Nelson Oliveira on a four-year deal, becoming the first striker to join the club this summer.

The Portuguese forward joins Norwich, having been frozen out of the picture at Benfica after a series of loan spells away from the Portuguese giants.

The striker scored one goal in ten Premier League games for Swansea in the 2014/15 season, before scoring nine Championship goals for Nottingham Forest in just 29 games last season.

The Portuguese international has 16 caps for his country, and is still just 25-years-old. He looks to finally be the striker fans have been waiting for this summer.

It’s no secret that Norwich have been looking for a new number nine, Oliveira could just be that man, but how have the fans taken to the news of the signing?

Well, here is how people reacted on Twitter this morning…

Twitter: Love the Oliveira signing. But we’re only an injury away from having one striker for the season. #ncfc need to relax their finances, I fear (@carlhood1983)

Twitter: @DK_NCFC not seen enough of Oliveira to judge him yet but he seems a promising signing on a 4 yr deal, no issue to hand him the no 9 shirt. (@JamesFinbow)

Twitter: Hopefully Oliveira can do the business. Now let’s sell Naismith for £6-£8m and bring in one more striker #ncfc (@GFlash_3)

Twitter: Well done on signing Oliveira. Now let’s sign another striker and some defenders before the deadline please? #ncfc #otbc (@_Rob_Mclaren_)

Twitter: Wouldn’t say Oliveira being given #9 rules out us getting another striker. Give that to a permanent signing and #16 to a loan perhaps? #ncfc (@ewanwilson99)

Twitter: @NCFC_Cam I’d take Oliveira for £4m over Vydra for £8m every day of the week (@tomk27)

Twitter: If we’ve spent all summer just to end up with Jerome & Oliveira up front then that is bang average business. What are club playing at. #ncfc (@SamJermy)

Twitter: £5m for Oliveira sounds like good business to me! Only recently turned 25, experience playing in England and has represented Portugal. #ncfc (@kickitoff_OTBC)

Twitter: Think Oliveira will be a decent signing, but why have we spent more money on a midfielder than our new first choice ST? #ncfc #moxeyeffect (@LordNxlson)
