Norwich striker charged by FA over betting

Norwich City and EURO 2016 striker Kyle Lafferty has been charged by the FA, over breaching their rules forbidding football players betting.

In a statement tweeted out by the FA this afternoon, they said:

“It is alleged that on 20 February 2016, the Norwich City forward placed a bet on the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of, or occurrence in, a football match or competition in breach of FA Rule E8.

He has until 5 August 2016 to respond to the charge.”

Given the declining state of his career on the pitch in the last two years, the last thing the Northern Ireland striker needs is matters off the field as well.

It’s unknown what exactly Lafferty was putting a cheeky punt on, but for his sake we hope it wasn’t for him to be Norwich’s top goal scorer next season.

While still technically a Norwich City player, all parties seemed to have indicated his departure from Carrow Road is a matter of when rather than if.

TalkSPORT reported last night that Birmingham had been interested in returning him to St Andrews, following an unsuccessful loan spell last season, but were instantly put off by the £1m price tag.
