League 1 side eye permanent move for Norwich striker

League One side Southend United are interested in making Jamar Loza’s loan move to the Essex coast permanent, according to the Eastern Daily Press.

The 21-year-old product of the Norwich academy recently rejoined the Shrimpers, after a loan spell in the 2013/14 season that saw the Jamaican score one goal in seven matches.

The youngster has made six appearances so far for his parent club, the highlight of which being a last-gasp equaliser at Huddersfield. But Loza has since been limited to the Under-21s side this season, scoring seven goals in twelve matches.

He’s also had loan spells at Stevenage, Leyton Orient and Coventry but failed to make an impact.

Loza spoke to the Southend Echo after completing his loan switch:

I’m a much better player now than I was when I was here before I’m more experienced now, I’ve had more games and other loan spells so I want to come here and show what I can do. Hopefully I can get a lot of games and a lot of goals during this spell and I can show how I’ve improved as well.

I definitely chose to come back here because of the manager and also because of the boys.

I enjoyed my time here before and not much has really changed since then. I know a lot of the boys so it was an easy decision to make in the end. I’m buzzing to be back and I can’t wait to get started in training and in the games as well. I need to be playing first-team football and hopefully I’ll get that here.

Loza signed a new contract with his Premier League side in 2014, with the club also having an option of a further twelve months if he impresses in League One.

But the Jamaican international will need to step up his game if he is to be rewarded with that further year, with many City fans being unconvinced he will ever make the grade in Norfolk and is destined for a career in the lower leagues.
