York manager confirms Norwich move for Godfrey

York City manager, Jackie McNamara, has confirmed to BBC Radio York that Norwich City have had a bid rejected for their promising teenage midfielder Ben Godfrey.

The 17-year-old has amassed much attention from the Premier League with some eye-catching performances in League Two. McNamara said that the youngster ‘had potential’ and that the player had a ‘big heart’ but he was currently going nowhere with it only being interest in the player, bar the Canaries rejected bid.

The York press recently revealed that Godfrey is refusing to sign on professional terms at Bootham Crescent and West Bromwich Albion along with Hull City and Cardiff City all expressing interest.

Godfrey was born in York, but started his youth career at Middlesborough before moving to The Minstermen in 2014. He currently stands at 6ft and only made his first professional appearance in August 2015.

York City currently sit 22nd in their league but have won their last two without Godfrey playing.
