Gary Hooper has revealed why his summer loan move to Sheffield Wednesday collapsed.
Speaking to the Sheffield Telegraph, Hooper rubbished the rumours that it was due to a dispute over a VIP box, but was in fact Norwich’s fault.
I was suppose to sign on the same day as Michael Turner (in August) but my deal fell through. I had medical and it just didn’t happen.
He says that the club refused to let him go, as they said that they still needed him. However, Hooper has failed to make an appearance since then and City boss Alex Neil has given him the chance to move to Hillsborough for first team football.
After his failed deadline-day loan move to South Yorkshire, local press reported that Hooper had rejected the move due to a dispute over the availability of a VIP box at Hillsborough, something Hooper denies ever happening.
Wednesday are reportedly paying all of the strikers £32k a week salary and paid a £500k loan fee to the Canaries in exchange for Hooper’s services.
The ex-Celtic man says he is already enjoying life at his new club and has already been briefed on what his objectives are.
It has been on-going but it is nice to be here. I have spoken to the gaffer a few times and seen the players today.
The gaffer wants me to play games and score goals. Hopefully I can help the team climb up the table.
Hooper joined Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, hours before Norwich’s Capital One Cup defeat to Everton. His loan lasts until January 17th with the Championship side. He will hope to make his first start for the Owls against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, after missing out on Wednesday’s shock win over Arsenal in the week.
