Mbokani shortlisted for African Footballer of the Year Award

Norwich City’s Dieumerci Mbokani has been shortlisted for the African Footballer of the Year Award.

The Congolese international has been named on a 37-man list which includes another ten Premier League based players.

The 37-man list will be cut down to a top ten in November. It will then be cut down again to a top five, and then to a top three for the awards ceremony.

Yaya Toure is currently the holder of the award and has won it four consecutive times between 2011 and 2014. If he wins it this year, he’ll replace Samuel Eto’o as the player to win the prestigious award the most times. Both have won it four times at present.

The ten other Premier League players nominated for the award are:

Christian Atsu (Bournemouth), Andre Ayew (Swansea), Yannick Bolasie (Crystal Palace), Mame Diouf (Stoke City), Rudy Gestede (Aston Villa), Max Gradel (Bournemouth), Sadio Mane (Southampton), Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City), Yaya Toure (Manchester City) and Victor Wanyama (Southampton).
