Olsson’s Swansea deal off?

Swansea City’s interest in Norwich left back Martin Olsson could be set to cool after the Swans signed Tottenham and ex-Norwich full back Kyle Naughton. Naughton, who has been played at both right and left back in his time, will join the Welsh side on Wednesday after a medical, with the two clubs agreeing a fee in the region of £5m. Whilst Gary Monk admitted his desire to strengthen the defence, Naughton could well be his man, after Swansea had inquired as to the availability of Olsson.

Norwich City legend Iwan Roberts, however, has called on the Welsh side not to sign Olsson. He said that the current first-choice Swansea left back Neil Taylor is “better than Olsson,” and that the Swede “got caught out twice for Cardiff’s goals” on Saturday. Swansea’s interest came after Crystal Palace upped their bid for Taylor to £4.5m, after their initial offer of £3m was rejected.

Elsewhere, Hamilton Academical’s full back Stephen Hendrie has been subject of a bid “in excess” of £2m from Premiership side West Ham United. Alex Neil’s former club have also received over 100 applicants for the currently vacant managerial job, with coach Martin Canning currently residing as interim manager. Neil’s assistant at the Accies, Frank McAvoy, will make the switch to Norfolk after Hamilton’s clash with Iverness at the weekend. In honour of Neil and McAvoy, the admission fee for everyone for the Iverness game has been set at just ten pence.

matchday.
