Following his impressive season between the sticks at Carrow Road, goalkeeper Angus Gunn will play a part in England’s pre-World Cup training camp.
Despite not making the 23-man squad to go to Russia this summer, the Manchester City loanee has been asked by Gareth Southgate to join up with the team ahead of warm-up friendlies against Nigeria and Costa Rica.
This is the second occasion the 22-year-old has been asked to join the England squad, doing so for the first time in November ahead of a friendly against Brazil.
Manager Gareth Southgate said:
We are going to bring a couple of training players in,
Nathaniel Chalobah, who has missed all the season so it’s good for him to train at this time. He is a player we would like to have been involved in the past. We are also going to bring in Angus Gunn next week to work with the team.
Goalkeepers Jack Butland, Jordan Pickford, and Nick Pope beat Gunn to the squad, but it seems the Canary turned in a good enough campaign to warrant inclusion to at least some degree.
Norwich are keen to make his status in East Anglia permanent, although are set to face stiff competition for the shot-stopper’s full-time services.
