- From ‘Town Crier’ to consistent leadership, McLean remains a Carrow Road icon.
- His work rate and dedication make him the prime Player of the Season contender.
- Experience and passion define the captain as he leads Norwich into the future.
Having posted a few player of the season candidates you are probably asking “But what about Kenny McLean?”
Last but definitely not least
Where do you start with Kenny McLean?
There was that iconic moment where he nicked a Town Crier’s hat and declared to the promotion party, “I’m the Mayor, what laws do you want?”
Having him openly brandish his bottle of Mad Dog, it was a delightfully surreal moment at an already glorious time.
The big man
What that moment can do is overshadow what McLean offers to Norwich City as a player. His work rate and dedication is exceptional.
While he may have fun off the pitch he is someone who is all business when it comes to taking games by the scruff of the neck and taking challenges head on.
Tributes
In a recent video celebrating his 300th appearance as a Norwich City player, tributes from the likes of Teemu Pukki and Daniel Farke came in as well as messages from his family.
It was a beautiful moment and highlighted how much he meant to Norwich City.
A man for all seasons
Whether it’s been a promotion push, a transition season, or even one on the brink of disaster, McLean has been a consistent presence.
He has made mistakes (including one that recently gifted Derby an equaliser before we went on to win the game).
There is also the trade-off that sometimes his passion can get him into trouble.
The winner
With almost any player of the season candidate this year there have been issues and factors you can point at that can take them out of the running.
There can be issues with consistency, injury or form meaning they stop short of being prize winners.
None of this has really applied to Kenny McLean.
More to come…
With a new contract signed, there is the potential for even more to come from our incredible captain. Here is hoping for more stunning free kicks, hard graft and epic banter.
Kenny McLean is not just a worthy player of the season but someone who is a crucial part of Norwich City’s future development as a team.
New players with potential are exciting, but experienced squad members like McLean will be vital when it comes to helping these younger players realise that potential.
Just please stop asking him to shoot from the half way line!
