Norwich are currently sat at the bottom of the Premier League table on 18 points after 25 games this season.
With just 13 matches left of the 2019/20 campaign, Norwich are staring relegation in the face for the third time in three seasons in the top-flight.
The Canaries were relegated in the 2013/14 and 2015/16 seasons under Chris Hughton and Alex Neil and are now closing in on a return to the Championship under Daniel Farke.
If Norwich are relegated down to the second tier again, they could need to freshen their side up and make some new additions in the summer.
Whether this be to just bring some fresh faces in, or to replace potential departures, if any of Norwich’s star players decide to leave at the end of the season.
With that in mind, here are some players from the Championship who Norwich could target.
Eberechi Eze
With Ondrej Duda due to return to Hertha Berlin in the summer, Norwich could be in the market for a new number 10.
QPR’s Eze has been excellent in the Championship this season and currently has 10 goals and six assists in the division. He could add an extra goal threat to Norwich’s squad from midfield, whilst also adding further creativity with his dribbling and passing skills.
He is also capable of playing in either wide position, which could help if the likes of Todd Cantwell and Emi Buendia move on.
Matty Cash
Assuming Nottingham Forest do not earn promotion, which could still happen, Matty Cash could be a solid addition to Norwich’s squad.
If Max Aarons leaves Norwich in the summer, Sam Byram would be the only senior right-back at the club. Cash coming in could offer serious competition for places in that area of the pitch, whilst also offering versatility with his ability to play in midfield.
Cash scored twice against Norwich last season with Forest whilst playing in central midfield, during the 3-3 draw at Carrow Road.
Patrick Bauer
Norwich have conceded the most goals in the Premier League this season, along with Aston Villa. This suggests that they need to strengthen at the back, even if they are relegated.
One player who they could look at is Preston’s Patrick Bauer. The German has averaged a WhoScored rating of 7.14 in the Championship, winning an incredible 6.4 headers per game for Preston.
This suggests that the could be a good addition to Norwich’s squad and add more aerial dominance in the box for the Canaries. He could help to clear crosses coming into the box and allow Norwich to deal with set-pieces better.
Darragh Lenihan
The Blackburn skipper has been in impressive form in the Championship this season and could help to strengthen Norwich’s defence.
He has averaged a WhoScored rating of 7.04 at centre-back and had chipped in with three goals from defence so far this season. This suggests that he could be a decent player to add to Farke’s squad in the second tier next term.
I was personally impressed with him when Norwich beat Blackburn 2-1 last season at Carrow Road. He read the game well and made a number of vital clearances from balls into the box.
Jacob Brown
Norwich have had a number of eye-catching young players come through the ranks in recent seasons. The likes of James Maddison, Josh Murphy, Jacob Murphy, Ben Godfrey, Adam Idah, Max Aarons, Jamal Lewis and Todd Cantwell have all played in Norwich’s academy and in the Premier League – either for Norwich or elsewhere.
Brown is only 21, but has produced eight assists for Barnsley in the Championship this season. This suggests that he could be a player worth investing in for Norwich, even if he does not immediately improve the team.
