The Canaries have been added into the competition this year after accepting an invite from the EFL, having last been involved during the 2016/17 campaign.
Daniel Farke’s side are allowed to field an under-21 side, whilst they are allowed to field two players who are above the age of 21 or who have played 40 or more senior matches.
Crawley and Portsmouth are the other sides in Norwich’s group, as they also face off against each other this week. If Norwich progress, there is a chance that they could face Ipswich’s senior squad later in the tournament.
Oxford have had a tough start to their season, with just one win in their five League One matches – including two defeats and two draws.
But, how will Norwich line up? Here is our predicted XI…
With Archie Mair out on international duty for Scotland, Billy Johnson could be given the nod between the sticks for Norwich.
We predict that Byram will be one of the two overage players in the squad. He was one of Norwich’s better players as they lost to Crawley in the League Cup, but is still behind Max Aarons in the pecking order.
Akin Famewo (C)
Akin Famewo has captained the under-23 side in recent games and could continue his role as skipper for this clash. The former Luton defender missed a lot of last season through injury.
Jones scored from defence in Norwich’s draw with Middlesbrough in their last under-23 clash, after returning from his loan move earlier this summer.
The Belgian left-back appears to have nailed down his place in Norwich’s under-23 side. He could complete the defence for this one.
The former Everton midfielder has been a consistent member of Norwich’s under-23 side since the start of last season. We predict him to start this one.
The young midfielder has been a regular for Norwich’s under-23 side. We predict that he will start alongside Tom Scully.
We predict that Thorvaldsson will start in midfield for Norwich, due to a number of players being away on international duty.
The winger on loan from Manchester City is yet to make his league debut for Norwich and could use the competitive game time to put himself in contention for Daniel Farke’s first team.
The towering centre-forward scored against Middlesbrough last time out and could lead the line again with Adam Idah away on international duty with Ireland’s under-21’s.
Hutchinson could be played out wide in the absence of Fitzpatrick and Adshead.
