These fans had serious questions about Norwich’s set-piece defending

Norwich got their Premier League season underway with a 4-1 loss away to Liverpool, but there were some signs of promise for the Canaries, despite the score line.

However, a familiar problem did rear its head for the men in yellow as, once again, they conceded a goal from a set-piece.

Virgil van Dijk’s header put the Reds 3-0 up to pretty much end Norwich’s hopes of getting anything from the game. The Dutchman is excellent in the air so these fans all asked the same question, why was he being marked by full-back Jamal Lewis?

Norwich’s set-piece defending was an issue in the Championship and on the basis of Friday night, it could be a problem in the top flight too.  Whilst Daniel Farke has done an excellent job, this is one area of the game that he still needs to address. Norwich’s combination of zonal and man marking can work in the Premier League, as other teams, including Liverpool, often use a similar tactic. However, Van Dijk is obviously Liverpool’s biggest threat in the air and there is no logical reason why it was decided that Lewis would be the man to mark him.
