Norwich accept invitation to play in the EFL Trophy

Norwich City have decided to accept their invitation to participate in the EFL Trophy for the 2019/20 campaign.

The club have confirmed that they will be playing in the competition next season, which was won this year by League One club Portsmouth – beating Sunderland in the final at Wembley.

Along with Norwich, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Everton, Fulham, Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Southampton, Tottenham, West Ham and Wolves have also accepted their invitations.

The competitions is predominately for sides in League One and League Two, but Premier League sides can enter an under-23 squad to compete in the tournament – which starts with a group stage in September.

At the start of the EFL Trophy, it is divided into the north and the south sections, meaning that Norwich’s under-23’s could be drawn to face Ipswich’s senior side.
